Real Madrid could give credence to a sensational swap deal in the January window to land Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool.
According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid could open the doors to a sensational swap deal to land Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool. The idea of spending a nominal amount of cash plus sending Aurelien Tchouameni the other way is a method of signing the right back in the winter window.
Liverpool are top of the Premier League and Champions League standings, although the uncertain futures of key trio Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold continue to dampen the mood at the club. The Merseysiders are yet to make a firm decision on their future, with Real Madrid already pondering a move for the right-back ahead of the January window.
Florentino Perez might have initially considered a free transfer in the summer window, although Dani Carvajal’s season-ending injury forced him to rethink. Real Madrid is keen to find a solution in January itself to land the 26-year-old Liverpool star. However, the Merseysiders are not interested in any low-price bids despite the danger of losing him for free next summer.
Real Madrid are not very optimistic about a January deal, although they are advancing in their process of signing him in the summer. Yet, there might be a small window of opportunity with Perez to accept a possible cash-plus player exchange in January, which could see Aurelien Tchoameni go the other way.
Tchouameni has been linked with an exit in recent times following some daft performances for Madrid. Liverpool are already thinking about a summer bid for the French midfielder to solve their issues in the middle of the park. However, they are reportedly seeking €25 million from Real Madrid and the midfielder in a deal that would let them allow Alexander-Arnold to depart.
Will Real Madrid agree to the swap deal?
According to the report, Perez would not be opposed to allowing Tchouameni to be part of a deal to land Alexander-Arnold. The French midfielder is also reportedly seeking an exit, and Liverpool is one of those sides deeply interested in signing him.
However, given how much Real Madrid values the Frenchman, it’s difficult to see them agreeing to a deal that would see the midfielder leave for nothing and the club add cash to the prospect. While this swap deal might be a strong way to land Alexander-Arnold, Real Madrid are likely to wait until the summer to bring him on a Bosman deal and then potentially sell Tchouameni for a good price.
