Hansi Flick reportedly wants Barcelona to sign 24-year-old Bayern Munich full-back Alphonso Davies, a target for Real Madrid and Manchester United.
According to an update by reputed German journalist Christian Falk, Alphonso Davies is the subject of interest from Barcelona. Hansi Flick is driving the Catalan club’s push to sign the Bayern Munich full-back, with Manchester United and Real Madrid also vying for his signature. However, the Blaugrana and the Red Devils are behind Los Blancos in the race to secure the 24-year-old full-back’s signature.
The Alphonso Davies story
Alphonso Davies has been among the best left-backs in the world since joining Bayern Munich from Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2019. That achievement is tremendous, considering he was a promising winger when he arrived at the Bundesliga club from Canada nearly six years ago.
The 24-year-old has been a mainstay at the back for Bayern Munich for several years, turning out over 200 times thus far while chipping in with 11 goals and 34 assists. However, Davies faces an uncertain future at the Allianz Arena after entering the final nine months of his contract, with the two parties far apart in negotiations over a new deal. The situation has alerted European bigwigs like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester United.
A man in demand
The Canadian international recently emerged on Barcelona’s radar, with Hansi Flick keen on reuniting with him at the Catalan club. While Alejandro Balde has been exceptional this season, the Blaugrana must keep two options for every position, making the Bayern Munich full-back a viable target. With Flick turning the player into a left-back, Barcelona might appear as an attractive destination.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s interest in Alphonso Davies is understandable. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a left-back amid Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia’s injury woes. So, Davies is an option worth considering, even if Shaw and Malacia become more dependable with their fitness.
As for Real Madrid, with Ferland Mendy blowing hot and cold this season and Fran Garcia not good enough to be the undisputed first-choice left-back, Davies has emerged as the top target. The reigning La Liga champions are the front-runners to sign the 24-year-old Bayern Munich full-back.
While Bayern Munich will look to keep the Canadian international at the Allianz Arena beyond the 2025 summer transfer window, the chances are decreasing by the day. It will be interesting to see if Flick reunites with Davies or if Real Madrid or Manchester United can sign him instead.
