Tottenham and Manchester City’s hopes of pursuing Tijjani Reijnders could be dealt a severe blow, as the midfielder could renew with AC Milan.
According to Calcio Mercato, AC Milan are aiming to renew Tijjani Reijnders’ contract at the club, which would come as a bitter blow to Tottenham and Manchester City’s hopes. The Rossoneri are eager to tie the 26-year-old, in-form Dutchman to a new deal as a reward for his terrific form this term.
Tijjani Reijnders is making his presence felt in the big league with some terrific performances for AC Milan this season. He has had four goals in the last three games in all competitions, including a strike at the Santiago Bernabeu, where the Rossoneri defeated Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Milan are protected by a long-term contract with the midfielder, with the 26-year-old in-form Dutchman’s current agreement lasting until 2028. In truth, they need not be worried about the growing links to Premier League sides. However, the club are eager to reward him for his brilliant form.
Reijnders currently earns €1.5 million per year at the club, but the new deal is reportedly set to more than double that, with a €3.5 million a year deal likely to be proposed. Milan have already begun talks with his father and agent, as a new contract could be on the cards for the in-form Dutchman.
Reijnders has formed a solid partnership in Milan’s midfield with Youssouf Fofana, and Paulo Fonseca hopes to keep the Dutchman for the long term. He will have aspirations about winning big honours, which could still significantly affect his thinking about the future.
Tijjani Reijnders deal a blow for Tottenham and Manchester City
Manchester City are keen on Reijnders, as reports suggest they were open to making an offer ahead of the January window. Pep Guardiola is suffering from the loss of Rodri to a season-ending knee injury and has earmarked a midfielder signing in the winter window. He might have to look elsewhere if Reijnders ends up renewing his deal at the San Siro.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are also keen, with Ange Postecoglou prioritising a midfielder and a wide attacker ahead of the January window. They, too, might have to look elsewhere, although they will have to show enormous ambition if they want to be seriously considered by the Dutchman in case he does not renew.
