Aston Villa are reportedly readying an offer for Pedro Goncalves in January, with the belief that Sporting CP will be flexible in negotiations.
According to Record via Sport Witness, Aston Villa are set to revive their chase of Pedro Goncalves and make a new offer ahead of the January window. Unai Emery had eyes on the versatile attacker back in the summer. The club believes it can return with a bid and hopes Sporting CP will be flexible in negotiations.
Viktor Gyokeres’s form has overshadowed the rest of his otherwise impressive Sporting CP teammates. The Swede’s astonishing numbers even made Pedro Goncalves’ 35 goals and assists last season in all competitions seem less important.
However, Goncalves has been critical under Ruben Amorim and showed what he can do in the big games in the recent clash with Manchester City. Goncalves is among those linked with Manchester United ahead of January as part of the many links that have emerged in the wake of Amorim joining the Red Devils.
Should the Red Devils sign the versatile attacker, they will face competition from Aston Villa. Unai Emery wanted the attacker back in the summer, but Sporting then wanted €80 million, which might also be his release clause at the Portuguese club.
Villa were only willing to offer €40 million, but now they have revived their interest in the winger, who primarily plays on the left-hand side of Amorim’s front three. Emery has been in the market for a new left-sided attacker with links to Kevin Zenon, which is one indication that they are in for such a profile.
Sporting to be flexible in Goncalves negotiations?
Goncalves’ ability to play across the front three positions makes him an exciting player, and he has already shown he is designed for the big leagues. Hence, Villa are ready to make an offer in the January window, as Emery would want reinforcements in the position in the winter window.
A big part of Sporting’s insistence on suitors paying the release clause for some of their notable stars back in the summer was due to the power Amorim held with these stars. It is believed that Amorim was instrumental in keeping stars like Goncalves or Gyokeres.
Now that Amorim is about to leave, Aston Villa are considering heading back to the table because they believe Spoeting will be flexible in negotiations for their players. Hence, Villa might feel that Goncalves could be signed for much less than his reported release clause.
