Manchester United will struggle to make any new signings in January to bolster new boss Ruben Amorim’s squad.
According to a report from Football Insider, Manchester United will struggle to sign players in January. The Red Devils might not have the needed funds to make any permanent moves at the turn of the year to reinforce Ruben Amorim’s squad.
Manchester United broke the bank and forked out a significant fee to reinforce their squad in the summer. They gave Erik ten Hag almost everything he asked for and wanted to back him for as long as possible. But, the Red Devils decided to part ways with the Dutch manager towards the end of October as he failed to get the desired results.
Following his departure, the Manchester-based club knocked on the doors of Sporting CP and they have managed to strike a deal for their manager Ruben Amorim. The United chiefs agreed to pay £9.25 million in compensation to acquire the Portuguese manager’s services.
While he signed a deal with Manchester United’s new boss on 1st November, he will be taking charge from 11th and his first match in charge will be the game against Ipswich Town on 24th November. After having spent a fortune in the summer, the Red Devils were already in a difficult financial position in terms of Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
United’s finances won’t allow signings in January
The sacking of Ten Hag and the appointment of Amorim have been another major blow to their finances. The entire operation has cost around £37.5 million according to finance expert Stefan Borson. This has complicated their financial situation and the Red Devils do not have much to spend on player transfer in January.
It will be difficult for them to spend any money in the winter which suggests United won’t be able to make any permanent signings. The only way out for them to reinforce Amorim’s squad will be by offloading a few of their current stars.
The Manchester-based club won’t rush into offloading too many players as they are aware that the summer of 2025 will see quite a few changes to their squad. For the time being, the former Sporting boss might have to work with what they already have in their ranks.
