Ruben Amorim keen on Alvaro Carreras signing

Manchester United’s new boss Ruben Amorim wants to bring their academy graduate Alvaro Carreras back to the club.

According to Álvaro Magalhães via SportWitness, Ruben Amorim is interested in the services of Alvaro Carreras and he could play a massive part in Manchester United trying to bring him back to Old Trafford.

After parting ways with Real Madrid, Carreras spent a significant amount of time in the Premier League. He came up the ranks at the Manchester-based club and even got promoted to their first team.

Unfortunately, he never really got to make an appearance for the senior side. Following multiple loan spells away from the club, he ended up joining Benfica permanently last summer. He had joined the Portuguese club at the start of the year on a short loan and they ended up triggering the buy option on the back of his performances.

Amorim could take Carreras back to Old Trafford

Amorim is quite impressed with the 21-year-old’s performances having watched him from close quarters in Portugal and according to Magalhaes, the new United boss could look to bring him back to England.

While speaking on Record, the former Benfica defender said: “I fear that Rúben Amorim wants him at Manchester United,”

“It seems to me that he has the quality to be one of the first options and looking at the squad, I believe that with the new coaching staff he could become a possibility again, especially because the new coach knows him very well based on what he saw from him at Benfica.”

“It would be a lot if Benfica had the ability to not let him escape, but now the decision is not just in the club’s hands.”

Amorim is all set to take charge at United on the 11th of November. His arrival will result in a tactical change with the team most likely shifting to a back three with attack-minded wing-backs. While they do have Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia on the left flank, both of them have struggled for fitness and bringing Carreras back will only be a sensible decision.

They have been considering it even before they struck a deal for Amorim and with the Portuguese manager a fan of the Spanish full-back, a potential deal becomes even more likely. Meanwhile, a report from O Jogo suggests that the Red Devils have a buy-back clause which only makes things easier for them.

While Benfica would love to keep hold of their star defender, they might not have the final say. Carreras will have a big say in where he plays his football in 2025 and it could well be the Old Trafford.
