Liverpool have no intentions of sanctioning the departure of Federico Chiesa despite rumours of a swap deal with AC Milan.
Federico Chiesa’s move to Liverpool hasn’t really worked as planned and he has been linked with a move away from the club. But, according to a report from Football Insider, Liverpool do not want to offload their summer signing in January.
A report from MilanLive has suggested that the Merseyside club are considering using Chiesa as a bargaining chip to acquire the services of AC Milan midfield mainstay Tijjani Reijnders. While the Reds do admire the Dutch midfielder, they do not really seem interested in offloading the Italian winger despite his struggles since moving to England.
With Chiesa struggling for form and fitness and his contract running out, Liverpool signed him from Juventus in the summer for a fee worth just £12.5 million. The Reds were basically taking a risk on the former Fiorentina star and so far, it hasn’t really worked out.
He has been involved in three matches and has racked up less than eighty minutes of first-team action. The former Juventus star is struggling to stay fit and it has resulted in a lot of talk about his future.
Liverpool are not ready to sell Chiesa
Chiesa’s contract at Liverpool runs until the summer of 2028 and the Reds are hoping that he can get past the injury struggles and start contributing on the pitch.
While the report from MilanLive suggests they would not mind sanctioning his departure and are ready to offload him to bring Tijjani Reijnders to Anfield, the Merseyside club are not considering allowing him to leave in the winter.
Liverpool wanted to reinforce their midfield in the summer and they went after the signature of Martin Zubimendi but things didn’t go according to plan. They are big admirers of the AC Milan midfield mainstay but they won’t let go of Chiesa to get a deal over the line.
Reijnders’ arrival could be a massive boost for the Premier League giants and with Milan keen on adding Chiesa to their squad, a potential exchange deal seems quite possible but as things stand, the Reds are not interested.
