Real Madrid still keen on signing Aymeric Laporte

La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly mulling over a move for 30-year-old Al-Nassr defender Aymeric Laporte for the 2025 summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet AS, Aymeric Laporte remains the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions pondered over signing the Al-Nassr defender in the summer transfer window before the move failed to see the light of day. However, they might return with a bid in next summer’s transfer window for the 30-year-old UEFA Euro 2024 winner.

Aymeric Laporte and his recent goings on

Aymeric Laporte has been one of the best players in the Saudi Pro League since joining Al-Nassr from Manchester City in August 2023. While the move surprised many, considering the Spaniard was still at the peak of his powers, he has done well for his club and country in the last 15 months.

The 30-year-old played his part as Spain won the UEFA Euro 2024 title in the summer, beating England in the final. Meanwhile, Laporte has turned out over 50 times thus far for Al-Nassr while chipping in with seven goals and one assist.

The Spanish international will enter the final 12 months of his contract when the summer transfer window opens in 2025. Such a situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Real Madrid will be one of Laporte’s prospective suitors next year.

La Liga return on the horizon?

Real Madrid mulled over signing Aymeric Laporte in the summer transfer window before the move failed to see the light of day. The Spaniard was ready to terminate his contract with Al-Nassr to join the reigning La Liga champions this past summer. However, Real Madrid decided against pursuing his signature.

The continued interest in Laporte is understandable, considering the 30-year-old is at the peak of his powers. The report has claimed that Real Madrid might launch the offensive to sign Laporte from Al-Nassr in the 2025 summer transfer window.

While the Merengues have other centre-backs on their wishlist, including Nico Schlotterbeck, Laporte might be a fine addition to the first-team squad, considering his previous experience in La Liga. It will be interesting to see if the UEFA Euro 2024 winner returns to Spain by joining Real Madrid next year.
