Manchester City eyeing Pablo Barrios as Martin Zubimendi alternative.

Pep Guardiola has asked Manchester City to acquire the services of RB Leipzig defensive sensation Castello Lukeba.

According to a report from Fichajes, Manchester City are interested in the services of Castello Lukeba. The Premier League giants are always on the lookout for players who can bolster their squad and they feel the RB Leipzig defender could be an ideal fit for them.

Pep Guardiola is quite impressed with the French youth international’s rise and he has asked the club to bring him to Manchester in the summer of 2025.

Lukeba came up the ranks at Olympique Lyon and made quite a name for himself while playing for their first team. He then made the move to Leipzig in the summer of 2023 and has only gone from strength to strength over the last 18 months.

He has established himself as a key part of the German club and is widely regarded as one of the best young defenders in the world. His sensational rise has resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe and in hopes of keeping him in their ranks, Leipzig have managed to extend his stay at the club. They have handed him a new deal that now runs until the summer of 2029.

Manchester City want to sign Lukeba

But, that doesn’t guarantee his long-term future at the club. Manchester City are one of the clubs that are interested in his services and they could still try to lure him away before the start of the 2025/26 season.

While they already have significant depth in their backline, City are always on the lookout for ways to further improve their team and they feel Lukeba could be a great signing for the short as well as the long run. Apart from his abilities at the back, he is capable enough to play out from the back and is exceptional in the air.

He seems to be a perfect fit for Guardiola’s style of play and the Spanish manager is keen on having him around. While he has just penned a new deal, a fee of around €60-70 million could lead to a departure next summer. It is surely a significant fee for a 21-year-old but City do have the financial strength to pull it off without much difficulty.
