Aston Villa are looking to offer their academy star Oliwier Zych a new deal amidst interest from rivals Arsenal.
According to a report from Football Insider, Aston Villa have no intentions of losing out on their goalkeeping sensation Oliwier Zych. Unai Emery’s team are aware of the growing interest in his services and they are looking to bring an end to all those talks by extending his deal.
Zych joined Villa back in the summer of 2020. He has gone from strength to strength over the years and has been a consistent performer for his Under-21 team. His performances have put him on the wishlist of a few rival clubs.
The 20-year-old shot-stopper’s performances in the Football League Trophy helped him earn a call-up to the Polish national team. While he is yet to make his debut, the fact that he was called up doesn’t make it clear that he has a bright future ahead.
Arsenal’s search for a new backup goalkeeper
With his current contract running out at the end of the season, Arsenal are one of the clubs that have been linked with the Polish goalkeeper. The Gunners parted ways with Aaron Ramsdale in the summer.
While they did bring in Neto from Bournemouth on a season-long loan, he is a short-term fix and they are looking for someone who can serve as David Raya’s backup in the long run.
Villa set to offer Zych a new deal
Mikel Arteta’s team are interested in the services of Zych and having watched him in action for Villa’s Under-21s in the EFL Trophy they were considering signing him. But, Villa do not want to lose out on the young shot-stopper.
They feel he could become an important part of their first team in the long run and are looking to extend his stay at the club. They want to tie him down to a new deal and are preparing to table an offer with improved terms.
He might not have made his first-team debut yet but Unai Emery has had him on the bench for two of their Champions League games which suggests the Spanish manager rates him quite highly.
