La Liga giants Sevilla are reportedly interested in acquiring the services of Tottenham’s summer signing Archie Gray on loan in January.
According to a report from Mucho Deporte, Sevilla want to reinforce their midfield when the transfer window reopens in January and they are interested in the services of Archie Gray. The former Leeds United star has only had limited game time since joining Tottenham, and Victor Orta is looking to make the most of the situation.
Gray came up the ranks at Leeds and managed to make quite a name for himself quite early in his career. After just a year with their first team, the North London club forked out a massive €40 million to sign him in the summer.
The teenage midfield sensation has only had limited game time so far. He has been involved in seven matches and has racked up just over 300 minutes. Ange Postecoglou has hardly been able to give him opportunities to feature in the Premier League as he has been used in four outings but has only racked up a total of 33 minutes.
The lack of game time is not helping the 18-year-old’s development. While he is considered a huge prospect and is capable enough to play in the defence as well as midfield, Gray needs regular first-team action to ensure he reaches his potential.
Sevilla are keen on signing Gray on loan
Sevilla are keeping a close eye on his situation at Tottenham, and they could soon knock on the doors of the North London club to acquire the services of Gray on a temporary basis. The Spanish outfit wanted to sign Sergi Roberto on a free transfer to bolster their squad in the summer. But that did not go according to plan.
While they did fail to reinforce their midfield back then, Sevilla are now looking to bring the former Leeds star to their club. The teenage prospect could be an exceptional signing for them as he can feature in the centre of the park as well as a full-back or a centre-back.
Victor Orta is the one leading the pursuit. He was the one who brought Gray into the limelight during his time at Leeds and now wants to reunite with him in Sevilla. They are looking to secure his services on loan.
It certainly looks like a win-win situation for both parties as the English youth international will get regular game time while the Spanish club will have the services of a massive talent. But, it will be interesting to see if Ange Postecoglou is willing to send him out on loan.
