Manchester United hopes of keeping Diogo Dalot increase

Manchester United’s hopes of keeping hold of Diogo Dalot have increased, with Real Madrid not viewing the Portuguese international as a top right-back target.

According to a report by Give Me Sport, Diogo Dalot is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. However, the reigning La Liga champions do not consider the Manchester United defender one of their primary right-back targets for the 2025 summer transfer window. So, the Red Devils’ hopes of retaining the services of the Portuguese international have increased.

Diogo Dalot and his topsy-turvy ride at Manchester United

Diogo Dalot has gradually established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League in the last few years. Jose Mourinho hailed his compatriot and generated much hype around him when he arrived from FC Porto as a promising teenager in a deal worth £19 million in July 2018.

However, the 25-year-old took some time to get going and has only been a regular for the Red Devils under the tutelage of Erik ten Hag. Dalot has not looked back since the start of the 2022/23 season, with his exploits earning him a new contract with £100,000-a-week wages last year.

The Portuguese international has been ever-present at the back for Manchester United this term, amassing over 1,000 minutes of game time in 12 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, Dalot’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Real Madrid.

Will Real Madrid sign Dalot?

Real Madrid’s interest in Trent Alexander-Arnold is understandable. The reigning La Liga champions are scouring the market for a right-back heading into the 2025 summer transfer window as they look to land the long-term successor to Dani Carvajal. So, the Manchester United full-back has emerged as an alternative to Trent Alexander-Arnold for Real Madrid.

However, the latest report has put more weight behind Dalot being an alternative to Alexander-Arnold, with Pedro Porro and Jeremie Frimpong the other top right-back targets for Real Madrid. So, the latest update has boosted Manchester United’s hopes of keeping hold of the Portuguese international.

Dalot’s £100,000-a-week wages would have been attractive for Real Madrid. However, Manchester United will fancy their prospects of retaining the services of the 25-year-old full-back unless the Merengues fail to land Alexander-Arnold, Porro, and Frimpong.
