Liverpool eyeing Jules Kounde as Trent Alexander-Arnold replacement

Liverpool are reportedly considering 25-year-old Barcelona defender Jules Kounde as long-term replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been linked with a move away from Liverpool, and the Merseyside club are looking at Jules Kounde as a replacement. According to Fichajes, the Reds could look to make a move for the Barcelona defender in the coming months.

Barcelona signed the French international for €50 million 27 months ago, and he has proven himself to be a reliable performer in La Liga over the years. Prior to his move to Barcelona, he was an important player for Sevilla as well.

There is no doubt that the Frenchman is good enough to compete at the highest level. However, he is primarily a central defender, and replacing Alexander-Arnold with him would be quite surprising.

Liverpool should look to bring in a specialist right-back to replace the England international if he moves on. Alexander-Arnold has a contract with Liverpool until the summer of 2025, and the two parties have not been able to agree on an extension yet. He has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, and the Spanish giants are hoping to snap him up on a free transfer next summer.

Losing a player of his quality will be a devastating blow for Liverpool, and they will need to replace him adequately. The Reds need to bring in someone who is equally good at both ends of the pitch. While there is no doubt that Kounde is a reliable defender, he is simply not as good as Alexander-Arnold going forward.

Kounde could be a useful option as a central defender

The French international would be a quality addition as a central defender. However, Liverpool need to invest in a quality right back as well. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool submit an offer to sign the Barcelona star in the coming months.

The Blaugrana are going through financial difficulties, and it would not be a surprise if they decided to sanction his departure for a lucrative offer. The French defender has proven himself in La Liga, and he could be open to a new challenge. Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and the opportunity to play for them could be quite attractive for the 25-year-old.
