Newcastle United set for January spending spree

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are all set to make major investments to improve their squad when the window reopens in January.

Newcastle United had a relatively quiet transfer window during the summer as they had some major Financial Fair Play concerns. But, that now seems to be a story of the past and according to a report from Football Insider, the Magpies are all set to go on a spending spree in January to bolster their squad.

Former Manchester United scout Mick Brown who remains well connected with the game insists the Tyneside club are on the lookout for players who can improve their squad and they will look to complete multiple moves during the winter.

Mick Brown’s take on Newcastle’s transfer plans

While speaking on Football Insider, he said: “I’ve heard they are looking to complete some deals in January,”

“There are still some concerns over their financial situation after what happened in the summer.

“But they’re considering options in every position to sign players who they believe can improve their team in the transfer window.

“Just like the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City will be doing, they want to keep improving.

“That means identifying areas where they may not be particularly strong or where they might not have much depth, and improving upon that.

“They obviously can’t go into January signing a new player in every position, but Howe will have a list of his priorities and where they want to improve.

“They’ll know what they can and can’t spend, and they’re always looking to improve.”

The Magpies were forced to offload a few of their players early on in the summer to ensure they stayed within the Premier League’s profit and sustainability constraints. While the Magpies did add quite a few players to their squad, they didn’t make any major moves in the summer.

Despite not making any major signings, Eddie Howe‘s Newcastle have made a decent start to the season. They want to return to Europe next season to ensure that, they are ready to make major investments in the winter.

Newcastle could spend big in January

The club will reportedly have a massive budget to work with in January and Brown feels Howe will have a list of targets that he would like to sign. While they were unsuccessful in signing Marc Guehi during the summer, they did make bids up to £70 million which suggests their manager will have enough funds to work with.

The Magpies are assessing every area of their squad, preparing to strengthen key areas where Eddie Howe believes reinforcements are essential. Just like giants Arsenal and Manchester City, they want to keep improving their squad as they have massive ambitions going forward. Newcastle are ready for a potential spending spree in the winter as Brown insists they are well aware of what they can and cannot spend at the turn of the calendar.
