PSG retain Marcus Rashford interest despite summer failure

Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain are still keen on signing 26-year-old Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Marcus Rashford remains the subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain. The defending Ligue 1 champions are keen on bolstering their offensive unit next year after feeling Kylian Mbappe’s void in the first few weeks of the 2024/25 season. The 26-year-old Manchester United star has thus emerged as a target for PSG.

Marcus Rashford and his journey at Manchester United

Marcus Rashford has endured a topsy-turvy ride since breaking into the first-team squad at Manchester United. The Englishman was an emergency arrival into the senior picture amid an injury crisis at Old Trafford midway through the 2015/16 season. Since then, he has been a regular in the final third for Manchester United.

The 26-year-old has reprised every role in the final third for Manchester United but has blown hot and cold in recent seasons. While Rashford could not stop scoring in Erik ten Hag’s debut campaign, he was dreadful last term. However, 2024/25 has seen an improvement, producing four goals and two assists in 11 appearances across all competitions.

Meanwhile, Rashford’s improvements have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. The 60-cap English international remains a target for Paris Saint-Germain, the same club that tried to sign him in the summer transfer window.

PSG still interested

PSG mulled over signing Marcus Rashford from Manchester United in the summer transfer window before a move failed to see the light of day. The reigning Ligue 1 champions were ready to cough up £75 million to secure the Englishman’s services. However, Manchester United wanted at least £100 million to consider parting ways with the academy graduate.

The continued interest in Rashford is understandable, considering Kylian Mbappe has left a gaping hole in the PSG attack. While Bradley Barcola has stepped up this season, Ousmane Dembele faces an uncertain future at Parc des Princes after a run-in with Luis Enrique. So, the Manchester United attacker is a viable target for PSG.

PSG should have no qualms about matching or improving Rashford’s £325,000-a-week wages. However, it is unclear if Manchester United will consider cashing in on the 26-year-old English international next year amid his improving form this season.
