Manchester United keen on Leon Goretzka, Leroy Sane

Manchester United are reportedly keen on a double move for Bayern Munich pair Leon Goretzka and Leroy Sane either in January or next summer.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United are keen on Bayern Munich duo Leon Goretzka and Leroy Sane. The German international duo could be in the market given their respective situation at the Bavarian club, as the Red Devils are hoping to take advantage.

Manchester United would angle for moves for some experienced players to improve their fortunes ahead of the January transfer window. There are reports that the transfer budget for the summer was exhausted, although they could have a separate provision ahead of the January window.

They are in desperate need of a change of fortune, as Erik ten Hag has led Manchester United to a disastrous start to their season. Ahead of the January transfer window, they could look at Bundesliga duo Leon Goretzka and Leroy Sane, as their experience could be valuable for what the club wants from the market.

The January market is essentially dry for most parts, meaning finding the right player could prove difficult for Manchester United. However, the German international duo are in an interesting position with their respective careers at Bayern Munich, as they can depart.

Goretzka was on Manchester United’s radar in the summer. But they could not sign him and resorted to bringing other targets. They could sell Casemiro in January, which could pave the way for another defensive midfielder to come in, with Goretzka’s experience likely to be valued here. Moreover, the German international has barely played for Bayern this season, which could make him a viable target in January.

Manchester United are unlikely to sign the German duo

Leroy Sane has also attracted a lot of interest from Premier League sides, and now Manchester United are finding itself in the mix. However, the winger is leaning towards staying, as per Florian Plettenberg, as there are possible talks of extending his stay at Bayern Munich, where his contract expires next summer.

Goretzka’s deal expires in 2026, meaning Bayern Munich have no real urgency to sell him. Moreover, the midfielder is not pushing for an exit as he wants to win his place back in the side, which could scupper Manchester United’s plans to sign the German international duo.
