Newcastle United initiating move for Antoine Semenyo

Newcastle United are keen to bring Antoine Semenyo in the January window as Eddie Howe ramps up his search for a new attacker.

According to Football Insider, Newcastle United are keen on signing Antoine Semenyo ahead of the January window. Bournemouth is unlikely to sanction a sale in the middle of the season for one of their key stars, as the Magpies might have to make an important offer to tempt the Cherries.

Bournemouth might have their objectives in place for the current season, and despite losing Dominic Sloanke in the summer, they have made a strong start to the campaign. One player who has taken a massive step towards filling the void left by the England international is Antoine Semenyo, who has stepped up in a big way.

With three goals and an assist in the opening seven games, Semenyo has caught the attention of some Premier League clubs ahead of the January window. Bournemouth did a good job securing a long-term contract for the Ghana international, which will make it very difficult to sign the 24-year-old Premier League attacker in mid-season.

Tottenham are pondering a €40 million offer, although that might not be enough if Semenyo continues to build on his current form. Newcastle United are among those keen on securing the 24-year-old as Eddie Howe looks for solutions to improve his attacking setup.

Bournemouth are uninterested in selling him in January, although they could be tested with an offer in the summer. Hence, for the Magpies to sign him in the winter window, it would take a huge effort from their end to test the Cherries.

Newcastle United are prioritising a winger

More specifically, Newcastle United are prioritising a right-winger in January, as Howe feels that area needs improvements. Currently, they have Jacob Murphy and Miguel Alimron for that position, although the latter is poised to leave the club in January, as the Magpies would like to bring in some cash rather than lose him for free in the summer.

Murphy is not considered a sure starter in Howe’s lineups, as the manager would like a permanent solution on that side of the pitch. Reports link a few options, with Semenyp being the latest of the lot. The Ghana international would surely make them stronger, depending on Bournemouth changing their stance on the attacker.
