Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing 21-year-old Spanish full-back prospect Alvaro Fernandez Carreras from SL Benfica.
According to a report by Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Alvaro Fernandez Carreras has emerged on the radar of two former clubs. Manchester United and Real Madrid have set their sights on the SL Benfica full-back after his exploits for the Portuguese giants. In addition, the Spanish full-back prospect is a target for Barcelona.
Who is Alvaro Fernandez Carreras?
Alvaro Fernandez Carreras has established himself as one of the best young full-back prospects in the world since joining SL Benfica from Manchester United. A native of Ferrol, the Spaniard spent most of his formative years in his homeland, passing through the academies at Racing de Ferrol, Deportivo La Coruna, and Real Madrid before graduating from the youth division at Manchester United.
However, the 21-year-old could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad at Manchester United and completed a loan move to Benfica in January. The Portuguese giants sealed the permanent deal this past summer, and Carreras has been a mainstay at the back, turning out nine times thus far this term. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, alerting high-profile clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester United.
A man in demand
While Alejandro Balde has become the undisputed first-choice left-back for Barcelona, the Blaugrana can do with another option for the position, considering the injury woes this season. So, the Spanish full-back has emerged as a viable target for Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s interest in Alvaro Fernandez Carreras is understandable. While Alphonso Davies is the top target for Los Blancos, they might keep their options open. So, the former academy prospect is an option worth considering, with Real Madrid mulling over a move.
As for Manchester United, the Red Devils are also keen on Alphonso Davies. With Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia struggling with fitness issues, Manchester United must sign a fitter left-back. So, re-signing the Spaniard is a viable option for the Premier League heavyweights.
SL Benfica will likely fight tooth and nail to keep hold of Carreras, who might benefit from remaining in Lisbon for a few more years to continue his upward trajectory. However, it will be interesting to see if Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester United can turn the 21-year-old Spanish full-back’s head.
