Tottenham are monitoring Javi Puado’s situation, as their need to strengthen the attack could lead to a January move for the winger.
According to Football Transfers, Tottenham are keeping an eye on Javi Puado ahead of the January transfer window as an approach might be on the cards. The Spanish winger has been impressive for Espanyol since the start of the season, as his availability on a cut-price deal in the winter months could pique interest from different teams.
Javi Puado has been in impressive form for Espanyol for some time now, and his early-season form has made that assertion even stronger. He scored a brace against Real Oviedo in June to help his side bounce back from relegation. This season, the Spaniard has three goals from eight games in La Liga, although he is out until the start of November with a knee injury.
Heading to January, the 26-year-old winger will enter the final six months of his deal, which will make Espanyol nervous while some of his suitors are excited. Tottenham is in the market for a new wide attacker, with a host of names linked with the club, including Crystal Palace high-flyer Eberechi Eze. They face intense competition for the Englishman, although he won’t be made available in January.
Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo is also a target. But again, he won’t be allowed to leave the Cherries in the winter months. In addition, Midtjylland attacking sensation Dario Osorio is a target, and now there are links to Puado, owing to his cost-effective availability in January.
Can Tottenham sign Puado in January?
Tottenham are in a good position to lure in Puado if they hold concrete interest in the 26-year-old winger, who they view as a long-term replacement for Son Heung-min. With six months left on the Spaniard’s deal in January, they could make a low-ball bid to force Espanyol into a decision about the player’s future.
Ideally, the newly-promoted La Liga club would feel Puado’s presence will help them get through the season properly, although losing him in January for close to nothing would be a big blow to their plans. Hence, any deal for the 26-year-old winger may not be as cut and dry as it appears on paper, as Espanyol would be eager to hold on to him at least until the summer, even if it means they will let him leave for free then.
