Arsenal rebuffed chance to sign Ferran Torres in the summer

Arsenal turned down the chance to sign 24-year-old Spanish international Ferran Torres from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Football Transfers, intermediaries offered Ferran Torres to Arsenal in the summer transfer window. However, the Gunners were not interested in securing the services of the Spanish international, with Barcelona keen on offloading him to free up funds next year.

Ferran Torres and his unsatisfactory Barcelona spell

Ferran Torres has blown hot and cold since joining Barcelona from Manchester City in a deal worth €55 million in January 2022. While the Spaniard hit the ground running at Camp Nou, he has been unable to maintain those levels in the last two seasons, thus losing his spot as the first-choice attacker for Barcelona.

The 24-year-old has continued to struggle for minutes in the early days of the 2024/25 season thus far. Torres has managed only 430 minutes of game time across ten appearances in all competitions while chipping in with one goal and two assists.

With game time coming at a premium for the Spanish international, something has to give. Torres nearly left Barcelona in the summer transfer window, with intermediaries offering him to Arsenal. Recent reports have also linked the Barcelona attacker with several high-profile clubs, including AC Milan.

Torres was offered to Arsenal

Arsenal could have done with a player like Ferran Torres in the summer transfer window. Eventually, Raheem Sterling joined the North London club on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea on the deadline day, with the Gunners reinforcing their offensive department with a versatile attacker. However, Arsenal rejected the opportunity to sign Torres from Barcelona.

The Gunners do not have any plans to launch the offensive to sign the 24-year-old versatile Spanish attacker in Barcelona in the January transfer window. However, the Catalan giants are keen on offloading Torres next year, with their investment of €55 million not yielding the desired results.

The Spaniard was determined to remain with Barcelona beyond the summer transfer window amid the relentless exit links. However, with the Blaugrana keen on cashing in on Torres next year, it will be interesting to see if they can cut their losses on him in the coming months.
