Serie A giants AC Milan are reportedly interested in 26-year-old West Ham United midfielder Edson Alvarez and might offer Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the deal to land him.
According to a report by Italian outlet Milan Live, Edson Alvarez and Ruben Loftus-Cheek might swap bases next year. The West Ham United midfielder is the subject of interest from the Serie A club. Meanwhile, the Rossoneri might offer Loftus-Cheek in a part-exchange deal to land the Mexican international.
Edson Alvarez and his journey in London
Edson Alvarez has blown hot and cold since joining West Ham United from Ajax in August 2023. While the East London club seemed to have struck a coup when they landed the 26-year-old, he has not transformed the team’s midfield department after replacing Declan Rice in the middle of the park.
The Mexican international has turned out nearly 50 times thus far for West Ham United while chipping in with two goals and two assists. Meanwhile, despite blowing hot and cold at the London Stadium, Alvarez’s stock in the market remains high, with AC Milan among his prospective suitors.
Serie A move on the horizon?
The report has claimed that AC Milan will look to sign Edson Alvarez from West Ham United next year. The Serie A giants are keen on reinforcing their midfield department in 2025, with Ismael Bennacer facing an uncertain future at San Siro. In addition, Tijjani Reijnders is a target for Premier League bigwigs.
So, Edson Alvarez has emerged as a viable target for AC Milan, and they might offer Ruben Loftus-Cheek in a part-exchange deal to land the 26-year-old Mexican international. While other midfielders, including Cesare Casadei, feature on AC Milan’s radar, Alvarez is also an option worth considering.
However, it is unclear if West Ham United will consider cashing in on the former Ajax midfielder next year or landing Loftus-Cheek as part of the deal to sell the 26-year-old to AC Milan. Ideally, the Rossoneri would prefer the part-exchange arrangement in the January transfer window.
The Serie A giants also have other midfielders on their wishlist, including Reda Belahyane and Samuele Ricci. It will be interesting to see which midfielder bolsters AC Milan’s midfield department in the January transfer window.
