Liverpool considering surprise move for Mason Greenwood

Liverpool seem ready to make a significant financial effort to bring Mason Greenwood back to the Premier League.

According to a report from Fichajes, Liverpool are considering a surprise move for controversial Manchester United academy graduate Mason Greenwood. The Reds are interested in the young forward, who currently plays his football in France.

Greenwood came up the ranks at Manchester United, and he was considered a huge prospect. However, his career got derailed because of an off-field incident. The controversial star made his return to the game with a loan spell at Getafe last season. While he did wonders during his spell at the Spanish club, United did not want to incorporate him into their first team because they didn’t want any unnecessary backlash.

The Red Devils ended up selling Mason Greenwood to Marseille in the summer for a fee of around €26 million. The Englishman is off to a flying start in the Ligue 1. In his seven league outings, he has scored five goals and has also bagged an assist.

The English winger’s exceptional performances have put him on the radar of Liverpool. While the Reds do have quite a few quality options in the final third of the pitch, they are always on the lookout for players who can further bolster their squad. They are interested in signing the versatile forward next summer.

Greenwood on Liverpool’s wishlist

Mason Greenwood is an exceptional talent who can feature anywhere in attack and is quite effective in the final third. He is exactly the type of forward Arne Slot is looking for. With Mohamed Salah’s contract running out and his future uncertain, the former Manchester United star could be an ideal long-term replacement for the Egyptian superstar.

The Merseyside club are plotting a surprise move for the controversial star who has a contract with Marseille until the summer of 2029. The 23-year-old winger has already shown a lot of maturity on the field, and he seems to have everything needed to succeed at the top.

The Ligue 1 club value him quite highly and they are unlikely to let him leave on the cheap. That is perhaps why Manchester United are frustrated at missing out on a huge windfall from Greenwood’s sale.

However, it seems the Reds are ready to fork out a significant fee to bring him back to England, where he had an exceptional start to his career. Any potential deal will also result in a financial boost for Manchester United who as per reports have a significant sell-on clause. However, the move to Liverpool will be surprising to say the least, considering Greenwood’s history.
