Juventus are considering a Bosman move for former Liverpool star Joel Matip after an injury to defensive mainstay Gleison Bremer.
According to a report from Fichajes, Juventus are looking to reinforce their backline following an injury to Gleison Bremer and they are interested in the services of Joel Matip who has been without a club since leaving Liverpool after the end of the 2023/24 season.
After coming up the ranks at FC Schalke 04 and making a name for himself while playing for their first team, Matip had an eight-year-long spell at Liverpool where he won all major titles. The 33-year-old centre-back was an integral part of their first team setup under Jurgen Klopp.
But, the 33-year-old missed the majority of the 2023/24 season because of a cruciate ligament tear and the Reds decided against handing him a new deal. He has been a free agent since leaving Anfield at the start of July.
The Cameroonian international has been linked with quite a few top clubs over the months but nothing concrete has happened so far. He still has a few years left in him and wants to continue at the very top. While he hasn’t been able to find an ideal club, Matip might finally have his answer in Juventus who have been hit by a massive blow.
Joel Matip could come in to cover for Gleison Bremer
The Old Lady did manage to secure a win in their Champions League fixture against RB Leipzig but they lost Gleison Bremer to an injury. The 27-year-old Brazilian centre-back is expected to miss the remainder of the season as he has torn his ACL with meniscus involved.
The Turin-based club now have a massive decision to make as they ponder over bringing in a cover. They have prepared a shortlist which contains the names of a few free agents who could be brought in immediately to bolster the squad.
The Liverpool centre-back is one of the names on their wishlist. The 33-year-old centre-back has a lot of experience and he could prove to be an ideal fit for their club. He won’t cost them a fortune and might agree to sign a short deal.
