Crystal Palace identify next Championship wonderkid in Romain Esse

Crystal Palace are keeping tabs on Millwall sensation Romain Esse as they prepare to make another big raid for an exciting Championship player.

According to Daily Mirror, Crystal Palace are eyeing Romain Esse from Millwall as they ponder a move for the rising Championship star. The 19-year-old English attacking sensation has improved with his performances, and the Eagles would not be opposed to making another raid for a lower-league star.

Crystal Palace have found success in bringing rising stars from the Championship and developing them into big Premier League stars. Over the last few years, the Eagles have gone about their business of plucking bright talents from the lower leagues and might have another name on their list.

So far, their biggest success stories with plucking Championship talent and making them into bonafide stars relate to the transfers of Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze, and Adam Wharton. The former was sold for a healthy profit following his £50 million move to Bayern Munich in the summer, while Eze and Wharton could leave in the future for huge sums.

They have a few more exciting young stars on their list, with Tyler Dibling as a target, who might leave if Southampton suffer relegation this season. Burnley’s Luca Koleosho is another name on their list, and now they have added Millwall’s 19-year-old English attacking sensation Romain Esse as their latest target.

Esse predominantly plays as an attacking midfielder in this Millwall side, with their manager recently suggesting he has improved a lot and would be ready for a Premier League switch. He can also play on the wings and has started all of his eight games in the Championship on the right-hand side of the pitch instead of the central role.

Can Crystal Palace sign Esse?

The lure of signing for a Premier League side will be too good to turn down for any Championship star, and that will be the case with Esse. He will also consider signing for an established mid-table side like Crystal Palace as a positive rather than switching to a relegation battler, as his chances of staying in the top flight with the Eagles will be huge.

Additionally, there are risks in signing for an established top team, as it could affect his game time and development in the short to medium term. Millwall managed to get a new contract in place for the 19-year-old English attacking sensation at the end of August, but his deal only lasts until the summer of 2026, which does make it easier for Palace to negotiate a decent price to get the attacker on board.
