Barcelona still keen on signing Darwin Nunez

Hansi Flick’s Barcelona reportedly remain interested in securing the services of Liverpool attacking sensation Darwin Nunez.

According to a report from Give Me Sport, Barcelona are keen on acquiring the services of Darwin Nunez. They retain interest in him despite failing to sign him back in the day. The Catalan giants are keeping tabs on the forward, who faces a make-or-break season at Liverpool.

The Reds forked out a massive £85 million to sign the Uruguayan international back in the summer of 2022 from Benfica. While he has showcased his abilities at times, the club-record signing has not been consistent enough.

While he was a constant feature in the starting XI under Jurgen Klopp, the 25-year-old has only started one Premier League game so far. In his seven outings across competitions, the South American striker has found the back of the net just once.

Things are not going according to plan for Nunez and if the report is to be believed, the former Benfica winger could be shown the exit door if he fails to establish himself as a key player under Arne Slot. The Dutch manager did have a lot of plans for the young forward, who can feature anywhere in the attack but he has not been able to make the kind of impact Slot wants.

Barcelona retain interest in Darwin Nunez

If things do not change, Liverpool could consider offers for his services, and Barcelona could look to make the most out of it. He was in the plans of the Catalan giants towards the end of last season. While they did not make any concrete moves to sign him, the Blaugrana have continued to monitor his situation at the Merseyside club.

Barcelona seem to be aware of the fact that he could be made available in the summer of 2025. While the Catalan giants are keen and will surely try to lure him to the club, Liverpool will still be in a strong position from the negotiations point of view. Nunez’s £140,000-a-week contract runs until the summer of 2028 which will give them the upper hand in negotiations and they are unlikely to significantly lower their demands.
