Manchester United disappointed to lose out on more Mason Greenwood windfall amid Barcelona links

Manchester United are seemingly disappointed at losing out on considerable windfall on Mason Greenwood after further interest in the forward.

According to Give Me Sport, Manchester United could regret selling Mason Greenwood on the cheap during the summer. The controversial academy graduate could earn an even bigger move in the future amid the links with Barcelona, which the Red Devils will see as a missed opportunity of sorts.

Marseille will see the signing of controversial forward Mason Greenwood as an ample opportunity they took advantage of. The 23-year-old proved himself as a player during his loan spell at Getafe, as his off-field problems and a damaged public image rendered him unable to play for Manchester United.

Either way, Marseille did face a lot of backlash for their decision to sign the 23-year-old in the first place, and many of their supporters are still aggrieved at seeing the striker play for the club. Having signed a five-year deal at the Stade Velodrome, Greenwood has made a sensational start to the campaign, with five goals in six Ligue 1 games this season.

Marseille used the market for Mason Greenwood to their advantage and bought the controversial forward for under £27 million. Given the level of interest in the forward prior to his move to France, one would have assumed his image problems were the only stumbling block for big clubs to sign him.

Barcelona are still interested in Greenwood and could make a sensational move for the controversial Manchester United academy graduate. If the Blaugrana do end up signing the 23-year-old in the future, it would be for a huge price point, meaning the Red Devils can be particularly aggrieved that they did not take the opportunity to get smart in the market.

Are Manchester United regretting the Greenwood decision?

Manchester United chiefs once considered Greenwood to have the potential to become a £100 million player. However, his off-field problems have led to the club distancing themselves from the forward, which may have resulted in the club chiefs making a quick sale decision on the controversial academy graduate.

In truth, as the report states, Manchester United are probably regretting the massive windfall Greenwood would have net had he made his move to a club of Barcelona’s stature, especially considering how much Marseille would demand for him now. Moreover, being a homegrown star, whatever money Manchester United would have made with his sale would have been deemed pure profit in PSR terms.
