Chelsea working on January solution for Carney Chukwuemeka

Premier League heavyweights Chelsea are reportedly working on a solution for Carney Chukwuemeka, who does not feature in Enzo Maresca’s long-term plans.

According to a report by Fabrizio Romano on Caught Offside, Carney Chukwuemeka does not have a long-term future at Chelsea. The West London club wanted to part ways with the 20-year-old in the summer transfer window before a move failed to see the light of day. So, the Blues are working on a solution for the youngster, with Enzo Maresca sanctioning his departure again.

Carney Chukwuemeka and his Chelsea career

Carney Chukwuemeka has seen his progress come to a stuttering halt since joining Chelsea from Aston Villa in August 2022. Born in Eisenstadt, Austria, the Englishman spent his formative years in England and graduated from the youth division at Aston Villa. He was one of the signings in the first transfer window under the current owners.

The 20-year-old has barely featured in the last two years for Chelsea and has become surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge. The Blues want to get Chukwuemeka’s £100,000-a-week wages off their books, and they were keen on cashing in on him in the summer transfer window.

A few clubs mulled over signing the English midfielder in the summer transfer window before a move failed to see the light of day. While Enzo Maresca insisted Chukwuemeka was one of the players who would not feature for Chelsea, he has managed 14 minutes in the EFL Cup. However, the youngster’s long-term future remains away from Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea keen on parting ways with him.

What next?

The Blues were astonished Carney Chukwuemeka did not depart from Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window. However, with the Englishman barely getting any game time, Chelsea and the young midfielder are keen on working on a solution regarding a move in the January transfer window.

The 20-year-old is a target for AC Milan, while Galatasaray and Manchester United mulled over signing him in the summer transfer window. However, the West London club will not entertain any loan bids for Chukwuemeka and will instead encourage permanent bids.

It will be interesting to see if Chukwuemeka’s suitors submit bids for a permanent move in the January transfer window. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea can finally get the English midfielder’s £100,000-a-week wages off the books this winter.
