Paul Mitchell lining up Maghnes Akliouche move for Newcastle United

Newcastle United sporting director Paul Mitchell wants to sign AS Monaco attacking sensation Maghnes Akliouche.

According to a report from TBR Football, Newcastle United are interested in acquiring the services of Maghnes Akliouche, who has had an exceptional rise at AS Monaco. The Magpies had a disappointing summer transfer window, and Eddie Howe’s team are expected to push hard to sign a few top stars in the winter.

Akliouche has been a part of Monaco’s setup since 2017. He went up the ranks at some pace and has been with their first team since the summer of 2022. The 22-year-old attacking sensation has made quite a name for himself with his consistent performances.

The right-winger has made an impressive start to the new season, and his performance against Barcelona has not gone unnoticed. While his contract with the Ligue 1 club runs until the summer of 2028, he could be on the move in January, as Newcastle United are plotting to raid AS Monaco.

The Magpies wanted to bring in a new right-winger during the summer, they wanted someone who could replace Miguel Almiron. But, things did not go according to plan, and the major highlight of their window was the forced departures made to comply with PSR regulations.

Newcastle United are interested in signing Akliouche

Newcastle United remain interested in signing someone who can feature on the right flank and are interested in Akliouche who can feature out wide on the right as well as a number ten. Their new sporting director Paul Mitchell is the one pushing to bring the 22-year-old to Tyneside.

Mitchell was at AS Monaco prior to his role at Newcastle United, and he is well aware of the young French winger’s abilities. As a result, he wants to make Akliouche a part of their project. The Magpies were in the market to sign Michael Olise during the summer, but they could not strike a deal.

While Akliouche is not yet on the level of Olise, he surely has the potential to be a special player. They are closely monitoring the French youth international, who was a part of the squad that secured a silver medal at the 2024 Olympics. Howe’s team could knock on the doors of Monaco during the winter window.
