Newcastle United front-runners to sign Jonathan David

Newcastle United are reportedly the favourites to sign 24-year-old Canadian striker Jonathan David after he leaves LOSC Lille next year.

According to a report by Italian outlet Tutto Juve, Jonathan David is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The LOSC Lille striker will leave the Ligue 1 club as a free agent in the 2025 summer transfer window, with Inter Milan and Juventus also keen on signing him. However, the Magpies are the front-runners to land the 24-year-old striker.

Jonathan David and his journey at LOSC Lille

Jonathan David has been one of the best players in Ligue 1 since joining LOSC Lille from KAA Gent in August 2020. While he has experienced many peaks and troughs throughout his spell with the Ligue 1 outfit, he has enjoyed several memorable seasons with Les Dogues.

The 24-year-old was prolific again in the 2023/24 season and has been hot off the blocks in the new campaign. David has contributed to nine goals in 11 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net seven times and providing two assists. However, his spell with LOSC Lille will end in the 2025 summer transfer window.

Jonathan David’s situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, especially from the Premier League. The Canadian international is also a target for Inter Milan and Juventus. However, Newcastle United are the front-runners to secure his services next year.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Newcastle United’s interest in Jonathan David is understandable. The Magpies are keen on signing a striker next year amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Callum Wilson. The Englishman has struggled with fitness issues throughout his spell with Newcastle United, and the Tyneside outfit will likely part ways with him next year.

David is thus a viable target for Newcastle United, and the 24-year-old can vie for the first-choice striker’s berth with Alexander Isak. The latest update has boosted the Premier League club’s prospects, as they are the favourites to sign the LOSC Lille attacker ahead of Inter Milan and Juventus.

However, Newcastle United must see out the move, starting with a pre-contract agreement in the new year. It will be interesting to see if the Magpies beat the Serie A giants to the signature of the Canadian international.
