Liverpool have a few problems with player contracts to resolve before the season ends, but they will feel the situation with Trent Alexander-Arnold is the most pressing issue of all. The 25-year-old is already into his final year at Anfield, and with Real Madrid circling, they are keen to make an effort to keep him.
Alexander-Arnold recently highlighted the need for Liverpool to match his ambitions, which he probably meant personal and sporting. On the latter, under the leadership of Arne Slot, Liverpool is looking strong and already in an excellent position to challenge for major honours. Still, the personal part will be something the club will think hard about.
According to old reports, the 25-year-old Real Madrid target has been targeting a place among Liverpool’s highest earners, which at present is Mohamed Salah. Replacing Alexander-Arnold is not the ideal situation
A club of Liverpool’s size would not have financial issues even if they lose Alexander-Arnold on a free and then spend big on a replacement. They will consider a move for Jeremie Frimpong if their current star leaves, but he may not be the ideal star to replace, nor are there many in the market to do so.
The influence Alexander-Arnold brings will far outweigh any potential option the club might consider as his replacement. Hence, the club must find a solution to keep the 25-year-old at Anfield beyond his current contract and pay whatever it takes.
