Liverpool eyeing Joey Veerman as Martin Zubimendi alternative

Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing 25-year-old Dutch international midfielder Joey Veerman, a target for Arsenal and Newcastle United.

According to a report from Give Me Sport, Liverpool will compete with Arsenal and Newcastle United for 25-year-old PSV Eindhoven midfielder Joey Veerman. Liverpool tried to sign Martin Zubimendi during the summer transfer window.

However, the Spanish international decided to continue in La Liga with Real Sociedad. The midfielder was not keen on leaving his boyhood club, although he regrets the decision to snub the Reds. Meanwhile, Liverpool have now identified alternatives.

It will be interesting to see if they can get a deal done for the PSV midfielder in the coming months. Liverpool need more quality and depth in the middle of the park. They need someone who will help out defensively and control the tempo of the game from the deep.

Veerman could improve Liverpool and Arsenal

Veerman has the physicality and technical attributes to do well in English football, and he could be a key player for Liverpool in the long run. Meanwhile, Arsenal keen on signing the midfielder as well. Jorginho is past his peak, and he will need to be replaced soon.

Furthermore, Thomas Partey has had his fair share of injury problems as well. Arsenal could certainly use another quality midfielder and the 25-year-old certainly fits the profile. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool and Arsenal step up their interest in the Dutchman with an official offer to sign him in the coming weeks.

The 25-year-old Dutch international has the quality to play for the biggest clubs in the world, and the opportunity to join Liverpool or Arsenal will be quite attractive for him. He will want to compete for major trophies with them. Newcastle United have been linked with the midfielder as well, and it is no surprise that they are keeping tabs on the PSV star.

The Dutch international could form a solid partnership with Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes at the heart of their midfield. Newcastle United will be hoping to push for UEFA Champions League qualification and domestic trophies. They need more quality in the side to compete with the top clubs.
