Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing 27-year-old French international Marcus Thuram from Inter Milan.
Marcus Thuram has done quite well since joining Inter Milan last year, and he played a key role in their Serie A title win last season. According to a report by Spanish publication Fichajes, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are now ready to provide him with an exit route.
The Frenchman has been linked with Arsenal as well in the last few weeks. It will be interesting to see if Aston Villa come forward with an official offer to sign the attacker in the coming months. The transfer window reopens in January, but Inter Milan will not want to lose a key player midway through the season.
The Nerazzurri will struggle to replace the French international if he leaves in January. Thuram scored 15 goals and picked up 14 assists last season. There is no doubt that he could be a quality acquisition for Aston Villa if they can get the deal done. The West Midlands club were overly dependent on Ollie Watkins last term, and they need more quality and depth in the final third. They cannot depend on one player to bail them through every week.
Aston Villa and Tottenham could use Marcus Thuram
Aston Villa are competing in the UEFA Champions League, and they will have to do well in multiple competitions. The Villans need more depth in the side, and signing the 27-year-old would be a wise decision. It remains to be seen whether they can convince the player to join. Playing for Inter Milan is certainly a step up compared to Aston Villa, and the striker will need some convincing. On paper, he should prove to be a quality acquisition.
The Frenchman has the physicality and technical attributes to do well in England, and he could form a solid partnership with Ollie Watkins, especially amid continued uncertainties surrounding Jhon Duran’s long-term future.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur need more quality in the attack as well. They have spent a substantial amount of money on Dominic Solanke earlier this summer. The England international needs more support in the attack and Thuram would be the ideal acquisition. He has the quality and experience to make an immediate impact, and he could share the goal-scoring burden with Solanke.
