Luis Diaz keen on signing new Liverpool contract amid Barcelona links

Luis Diaz has reportedly dealt a blow to Barcelona’s prospects of signing him as he is keen on signing a new contract with Liverpool.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Luis Diaz has been the subject of interest from Barcelona for several weeks. However, the Catalan giants must look elsewhere for a new wide attacker, with the Colombian international keen on signing a new contract with Liverpool.

Luis Diaz and his Liverpool journey

Luis Diaz has established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League since joining Liverpool from FC Porto in a deal worth €45 million in January 2022. The South American attacker hit the ground running at Anfield and enjoyed a solid second half of the 2021/22 season.

The 27-year-old continued that form in the 2022/23 season but blew hot and cold last term, with off-field distractions also playing a part in his inconsistent form. However, Diaz has rediscovered his best form in the early days of the 2024/25 campaign, amassing five goals and one assist in five Premier League appearances thus far.

The Colombian international was also in fine form as El Tri reached the 2024 Copa America final. Meanwhile, Luis Diaz’s exploits for his club and country have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Barcelona.

Barcelona interested in Diaz

Barcelona’s interest in Luis Diaz is understandable. While Raphinha has been the best player for the Blaugrana in the first few weeks of the 2024/25 season, Ferran Torres faces an uncertain future at the Catalan club. So, Barcelona should consider investing in a world-class attacker, with the Liverpool winger emerging as a viable target.

However, after failing to sign Diaz in the summer transfer window, Barcelona might have lost the opportunity to secure his services, as Arne Slot wants Liverpool to tie him to a new contract. The latest update has dealt a blow to Barcelona’s prospects, with the Colombian international keen on signing a new deal with the Merseyside outfit.

With Diaz committed to Liverpool for the long haul, Barcelona must look elsewhere for a new attacker if Ferran Torres leaves next year. As for the 27-year-old, his journey with Liverpool will continue for the foreseeable future.
