Manchester United uninterested in winter move for Ben Chilwell

Manchester United have reportedly ruled out a move in the January transfer window for 27-year-old Chelsea misfit Ben Chilwell.

According to a report by Give Me Sport, Ben Chilwell is no longer the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen on signing a left-back in the January transfer window. However, they will not launch the offensive to land the 27-year-old out-of-favour Chelsea defender in the coming months.

The rise and fall of Ben Chilwell

Ben Chilwell was among the best full-backs in the Premier League when he joined Chelsea from Leicester City in August 2020. However, the Englishman has struggled with fitness issues throughout his spell with the West London club, although that never affected his stature as the first-choice left-back in his first four seasons at Stamford Bridge.

Things changed after Enzo Maresca replaced Mauricio Pochettino as the Chelsea manager, with the Italian tactician relegating many stars to the “bomb squad”. That forced the hand of several bigwigs, including Raheem Sterling, who has joined Arsenal. However, Chilwell could not find a new club despite his links with Turkish clubs.

The 27-year-old, who has turned over 100 times thus far for Chelsea while chipping in with nine goals and 12 assists, must now spend the first half of the 2024/25 season as a bit-part player, fending for little game time. However, the English international is ready to leave Chelsea as soon as possible. But that move will not be to Manchester United.

Manchester United no longer interested in Chilwell

Widespread reports have heavily linked Ben Chilwell with Manchester United. However, the Red Devils decided against launching the offensive to sign the Chelsea misfit in the summer transfer window. Recent reports have suggested that the Englishman remains on Manchester United’s radar.

However, Manchester United will not pursue Chilwell in the January transfer window, as they have other ideas to bolster the left-back slot. As for the English international, he must look elsewhere for an escape route from Chelsea this coming winter.

Recent reports have linked the 27-year-old Chelsea misfit with Crystal Palace. While the South London club will be a step down from the Blues, he must resurrect his stuttering career while he is at the peak of his powers. So, it will be interesting to see where he lands in January.
