Liverpool ready to battle Manchester United for Antonee Robinson

Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing the Fulham defender Antonee Robinson.

They will compete for the 27-year-old Premier League defender and it remains to be seen where he ends up. A report from the Sun claims that the English clubs are looking to sign the United States international in the near future.

Manchester United and Liverpool could certainly use more quality and depth in the left-back department. Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have had their fair share of injury problems and Manchester United need someone reliable in that role. Robinson has proven himself in the Premier League and he is certainly good enough to play for the big clubs. He could prove to be a quality acquisition for the Red Devils if they can get the deal done.

He is well-settled in English football and he could make an instant impact at Old Trafford if the transfer goes through.

Robinson would improve Liverpool

Meanwhile, Liverpool need more depth in the left back area as well. They have Andrew Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas at their disposal. However, the Scottish international is in his 30s and Tsimikas is not good enough to start for a big club like Liverpool every week. Liverpool must look to bring in an upgrade on the Greek international and Robinson would be a quality addition.

He could compete with Robertson for the starting spot right now and then replace him in the starting lineup in the coming seasons. The 27-year-old is at the peak of his powers and he will look to compete at the highest level. The opportunity to join clubs like Manchester United or Liverpool will be quite attractive for him and he will look to win major trophies with them.

The defender is likely to improve when he is playing alongside better players at a big club, and it remains to be seen where he ends up. Manchester United and Liverpool have the financial resources to get the deal done, and it will be interesting to see if they follow up with an official proposal to sign the defender.
