Inter Milan are eying a move for Liverpool outcast Joe Gomez, with the report stating a staggering drop in the defender’s valuation.
According to Inter-Live, Joe Gomez has emerged as a target for Liverpool ahead of future windows. The Nerazzuri could be in search of new defenders as the futures of two of their current stars are uncertain, as the Liverpool outcast and Englishman could be an exciting option.
Joe Gomez on Inter Milan’s radar
Inter Milan could enter the market for defensive reinforcements, as they have two centre-backs on expiring contracts. There needs to be progress made in reviving the careers of Stefan de Vrij and Francesco Acerbi. The latter is 36, and while he has been an exceptional performer under Simone Inzaghi, there are doubts whether a new contract is underway.
De Vrij has been on uncertain terms for some time now, and while he’s not an automatic starter under Inzaghi, there’s a growing scenario that he will look to leave. Inter might also consider a January sale of the Dutchman, as that would be the last chance for them to get something for the centre-back, although there are chances he would l; leave for a free next summer.
Meanwhile, Inter Milan are considering a few options in the market, including Arsenal’s Takehiro Tomiyasu and Jakub Kiwior, as they might have a realistic chance with the latter. They also have Liverpool outcast Joe Gomez on their radar, with the 27-year-old Englishman seemingly down in the pecking order under new boss Arne Slot.
Gomez had concrete interest from Premier League sides in the summer, but neither the club nor the player could make a firm decision. That could have been due to Liverpool’s asking price, and the 27-year old still has a contract until 2027, which does make it unlikely that the Merseysiders will reduce their valuation.
Liverpool to drop asking price?
In fact, the report goes on to insist that Liverpool have dropped Gomez’s valuation by more than half, and the player could be available for €20 million or slightly more in future windows. Whether that would be in January remains to be seen, as Arne Slot might not sell in the winter window.
Inter are also looking at other bargain options, such as Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk; however, taking into account the long-term prospects and versatility of a player, Gomez makes sense. The €20 million-rated Liverpool star would be a bargain for the Nerazzuri for that price, although only time will tell whether their interest is concrete.
