Real Madrid will reportedly compete with Paris Saint-Germain for the signature of Gabriel Magalhaes, although Arsenal will look to tie him to a new contract.
According to a report by Caught Offside, Gabriel Magalhaes is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions are scouring the market for a centre-back ahead of the 2025 summer transfer window. The 26-year-old Arsenal defensive mainstay has thus emerged as a target, although he is also on the wishlist at Paris Saint-Germain.
The rise and rise of Gabriel Magalhaes
Gabriel Magalhaes has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League since joining Arsenal from LOSC Lille in September 2020. The South American centre-back has been a mainstay at the back for the North London club in the last four years apart form a few phases.
The 26-year-old has made his mark with his astute reading of the game and ability to score a few goals. Gabriel has turned out 173 times thus far for Arsenal while chipping in with 16 goals and one assist. In addition, the player’s exploits have helped him establish a foothold in the Brazilian national team.
Meanwhile, Gabriel’s exploits for his club and country have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Real Madrid. However, Arsenal will look to tie the Brazilian international to a new contract, with the two parties reportedly in an “open dialogue” over a deal.
A man in demand
Real Madrid’s interest in Gabriel Magalhaes is understandable. The reigning La Liga champions are scouring the market for a centre-back ahead of the 2025 summer transfer window. While Carlo Ancelotti has three world-class central defenders in his squad, David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger are on the wrong side of 30.
So, it behoves Real Madrid to invest in a centre-back, with Gabriel emerging as a viable target. However, the Merengues are not alone in the race to secure the Brazilian defender’s services, with Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain also keen on signing him from Arsenal next year.
Meanwhile, recent reports have claimed that Barcelona and Bayern Munich are interested in Gabriel. However, Arsenal will look to tie the 26-year-old to a new contract, although it will be interesting to see if the interest from Real Madrid and PSG turns his head.
