Sean Longstaff would be leaning towards signing a new deal at Newcastle United, with the midfielder’s current contract expiring next summer.
According to Football Insider, Sean Longstaff is not looking to leave Newcastle United on a free transfer next season, as he wants a new deal to stay at the club. The 26-year-old homegrown player feels comfortable in his current surroundings, and an extension could be beneficial for all parties concerned.

Newcastle United manoeuvred through a tricky summer window, as they might have made some wise decisions with regard to transfers. The Magpies were under pressure to sell and raise funds to avoid breaching their PSR obligations. Hence, at the beginning of the window many predicted them to sell some of their critical stars, especially a couple of their homegrown players.
They managed to keep hold of Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes, as Eddie Howe was not bent on selling them, while Elliot Anderson left for Nottingham Forest, which ensured they raised the required money from sales. Newcastle United had set an asking price for the midfielder, but owing to his importance in Howe’s side, they decided to keep him. Longstaff has been critical to Eddie Howe’s plans and was nearly an ever-present member of their midfield in the absence of Sandro Tonali following his ban. The 26-year-old has been a regular this season, as the manager would be in preference of the midfielder staying at the club for a long time to come and handing him a new deal in the next phase.
Keeping Longstaff would benefit all parties
Starting with the player, Longstaff certainly feels settled with the team and his hometown of Newcastle. Hence, he would have no qualms about continuing here. Moreover, should he leave on a free transfer, he could negotiate reasonable terms with a new team, although Newcastle United will end up getting nothing for such a precious asset in this modern day and age of PSR.
Hence, it’s in the club’s best interest to tie Longstaff down to a new deal, especially given how important he is to the fans. A homegrown star of his stature could still fetch a significant sum in the future if they planned to sell him in the coming seasons.
