La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly mulling over signing 15-year-old Mexican midfield sensation Gilberto Mora from Xolos de Tijuana.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Gilberto Mora is the subject of interest from Barcelona. While the Catalan giants have the attacking midfield spot covered after Dani Olmo’s arrival this past summer, they do not want to miss the opportunity to sign the Mexican midfield sensation from Xolos de Tijuana in the coming years.
Who is Gilberto Mora?
Gilberto Mora is one of the brightest young prospects in his homeland, emerging as the next big thing in Mexican football. A native of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, the teenage prodigy spent his formative years in Mexico and graduated from the youth division at Xolos de Tijuana.
Like his father, the 15-year-old is a midfielder, although he prefers to reprise the no. 10 role. Coaches at Xolos de Tijuana have described the youngster as “one of the most outstanding elements in the lower divisions of the team”. And Mora has already made history after making his first-team bow for Tijuana this year.
The Mexican midfield sensation, who has a goal and an assist in four outings thus far for the first team at Xolos de Tijuana has become the youngest player to score a goal in the Mexican top flight, finding the back of the net in a 2-1 win over Club Leon last month. Meanwhile, Gilberto Mora’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona.
Barcelona want Mora
Barcelona’s interest in Gilberto Mora is hardly surprising. The Catalan giants constantly scour the market for the brightest young prospects, both in Europe and other continents. The outlook has helped the Blaugrana fill the first-team squad with promising prospects like Pedri, Gavi, and others.
