Liverpool remain keen on acquiring the services of Anthony Gordon, while Newcastle United are pushing to extend his stay at the club.
Anthony Gordon’s future has become a big talking point. The English international was linked with a move to Liverpool throughout the summer as Newcastle United were looking to resolve their financial issues. He remained at the Tyneside club, but according to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, the Reds retain their interest and could return for him next year.
Gordon came up the ranks at Everton and made a name for himself while playing for their first team before making the move to Newcastle United at the start of 2023. He has only gone from strength to strength since joining Eddie Howe’s team.
Liverpool to return for Gordon’s signature
The Englishman is only 23 and will only get better with time. He is already a mainstay at Newcastle and has been a constant feature for England of late. Liverpool were keen on signing Gordon during the recently concluded transfer window.
The Magpies were struggling to balance their books, and the Reds were looking to make the most out of it by prising Gordon away. Eventually, Howe’s team parted ways with Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh to get things under their control.
While Newcastle United did manage to keep hold of the English international during the summer, his contract situation makes his future quite complicated. Liverpool did fail to sign him this summer but they retain their interest in the former Everton winger and could return for him next summer when he will only have 12 months left on his deal.
Newcastle United to offer Gordon a new deal
Newcastle United want to avoid such a situation at all costs, and they are looking to hold contract renewal talks with their star forward. They consider him an integral part of their plans and do not want to lose out on him. The Magpies want to ensure clubs like Liverpool do not attempt to prise him away in the future.
They want to sit down with the 23-year-old and hold talks over renewing his deal. While they are currently in talks with Alexander Isak, they want to hold talks with Gordon as soon as possible with his stock rising all the time. But, it remains to be seen if the English winger wants to extend his stay at the Tyneside club.
