Arsenal, Real Madrid in transfer tussle to sign Miguel Gutierrez

Arsenal and Real Madrid will compete with Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich for 23-year-old Girona defender Miguel Gutierrez, valued at around €30-35 million.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Miguel Gutierrez is the subject of interest from Arsenal. The Gunners are keen on signing a left-back next year but will compete with Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, and Bayern Munich for his signature. Meanwhile, the Spanish international has a release clause, whose value is between €30-35 million, although Los Blancos can re-sign him for €8 million.

Miguel Gutierrez and his journey at Girona

Miguel Gutierrez has found a stable footing in his career since joining Girona from Real Madrid in August 2022. A native of Pinto, the Spaniard spent most of his formative years in and around Real Madrid. He was at Real Madrid for over a decade but could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 23-year-old has turned out nearly 100 times thus far for Girona while chipping in with four goals and 14 assists. In addition, Gutierrez’s exploits for the Catalan outfit have helped him break into his national team, and he has made five appearances for Spain while scoring once.

Meanwhile, Miguel Gutierrez’s exploits for his club and country have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. The latest update has revealed that he is a target for Arsenal and Real Madrid, although they will compete with Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich in a four-way battle. Meanwhile, Girona will demand around €30-35 million to part ways with the Spanish international.

A man in demand

Miguel Gutierrez has been on Arsenal’s radar for a long time. The Gunners are keen on signing a natural left-back as an alternative to players like Oleksandr Zinchenko, Jurrien Timber, and Takehiro Tomiyasu. So, Gutierrez has been a viable target for Arsenal.

As for Real Madrid, they can re-sign Gutierrez for €8 million due to a buyback clause in his deal with Girona. In addition, they have a 50 per cent sell-on if they do not bring the Spaniard back to the Santiago Bernabeu and he moves elsewhere. Nevertheless, Gutierrez is a viable target for Real Madrid due to the uncertainties surrounding Fran Garcia’s future.

Arsenal and Real Madrid are in a four-way battle along with Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich for Miguel Gutierrez’s services. It will be interesting to see if the other three clubs are ready to cough up €30-35 million to beat Real Madrid to his signature.
