Arsenal could get a boost in their pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres, as Sporting CP are reportedly willing to sell the striker in January.
According to Football Transfers, Arsenal could be handed a boost in their pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres as SportingCP could plan on selling the striker. The report also states the Portuguese giants could offload him for less than his release clause, which would pique the interest of clubs such as the Gunners.
Arsenal could sign Viktor Gyokeres in January
Viktor Gyokeres was one of the most prolific strikers around Europe last season, as his 43 goals across all competitions for Sporting CP also helped them to a league title. This season, the Swedish international already has 11 goals and assists to his name at club level and more for his national side.
His superb form has only reaffirmed the interest of a few top clubs, with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea already planning moves in 2025. The two clubs should have signed a striker in the summer when. Many pointed towards their apparent need for one, meaning they could challenge the Swedish international in January.
Arsenal recently cooled their interest in Benjamin Sesko as they could target a readymade striker such as Gyokeres. The €100 million release clause has been a major stumbling block for any side chasing the 26-year-old, but as per the report, Sporting is willing to lower their demands as they are open to a sale in January.
In any case, the 26-year-old will undoubtedly cost a lot of money to anyone keen on signing him. However, there are doubts whether Sporting would actually sell him for less, especially in January. Either way, the Gunners will be keen to add the prolific striker to their ranks, as they currently miss a profile of his kind.
Will Sporting sell Gyokeres in January?
Any club in the world will be apprehensive about losing their best players midway through the season, and that might be the case with Sporting CP. Despite the report stating the contrary, the Portuguese side might end up demanding the total value of the €100 million release clause to sell their 26-year-old star striker.
Gyokeres is unlikely to move in January, as he would prefer continuity as things stand, and the striker remains happy at Sporting. However, should a serious offer lkand on his table from one of the Premier League giants like Arsenal, there’s nothing to suggest the striker won’t have his head turned by that prospect.
