Inter Milan eyeing January move for Takehiro Tomiyasu

Serie A champions Inter Milan will reportedly look to sign 25-year-old Japanese utility man Takehiro Tomiyasu from Arsenal in the January transfer window.

According to a report by Italian outlet Inter Live, Takehiro Tomiyasu is the subject of interest from Inter Milan. The Serie A champions are keen on signing a versatile defender in the January transfer window. Meanwhile, Arsenal will demand around €30 million to part ways with the Japanese utility man in the coming months.

Takehiro Tomiyasu and his Arsenal journey so far

Takehiro Tomiyasu has established himself as an asset for Arsenal since arriving from Bologna in August 2021. The Asian defender did not take long to find a stable footing at the Emirates, and his ability to play across the backline has made him a utility man for the North London club.

The 25-year-old has turned out 83 times thus far for Arsenal while chipping in with two goals and six assists. While Tomiyasu has struggled with fitness issues throughout his spell with the Premier League outfit, he has made his mark whenever he has taken the field.

The Japanese international is currently on the sidelines as he recovers from a knee injury. So, he has yet to make an appearance for Arsenal thus far this season. Meanwhile, Takehiro Tomiyasu’s progress at the Emirates in the last three years has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Inter Milan.

Serie A return on the cards?

Takehiro Tomiyasu has been on Inter Milan’s radar for a long time, with the Nerazzurri also mulling over a move last year. The Serie A champions remain interested in the Arsenal utility man, which makes sense, considering Francesco Acerbi is in the twilight of his career and Stefan de Vrij is on the wrong side of 30.

In addition, Denzel Dumfries faces an uncertain future at San Siro amid widespread links with Premier League clubs. So, Tomiyasu is a viable target for Inter Milan, although Arsenal’s asking price might deter the Nerazzurri. The Gunners want to recoup around €30 million to part ways with the Japanese defender.

The report suggests Inter Milan might not have the funds to afford a deal worth €30 million. However, the Serie A champions have other defenders on their radar, including Arsenal centre-back Jakub Kiwior.
