Everton rival Liverpool in Anthony Patterson chase

Liverpool have been linked with a move for 24-year-old Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson in recent months.

Anthony Patterson has impressed in the EFL Championship with Sunderland, and his performances have attracted the attention of Everton as well. According to Graeme Bailey on HITC, the Toffees are keen on signing the English goalkeeper, and they are ready to battle it out with Merseyside rivals Liverpool for his signature.

It will be interesting to see if Liverpool follow up on their interest with an official offer to sign the 24-year-old in the coming months. They have recently signed Giorgi Mamardashvili as the long-term replacement for Alisson Becker. The Reds could need another goalkeeper if Caoimhin Kelleher is allowed to leave the club in the near future.

Patterson has shown his quality in the EFL Championship, and he could be a quality backup option at Liverpool. However, the Englishman might want to play regularly, and Everton are probably better placed to provide him with that opportunity.

Jordan Pickford has been quite mediocre and he has been linked with a move away from the club. Everton will have to replace him adequately and they will be able to offer Patterson ample first-team exposure.

That said, Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and the opportunity to join them can be quite attractive for any player. Patterson will want to join a club where he will be able to compete for trophies and test himself in Europe. Liverpool would be an exceptional move for him at this stage of his career.

Sunderland will not want to lose a key player like him,  and they could demand a premium for his services.Although Liverpool have the financial resources to get a deal done, Everton will not be able to pay a premium for the player. It remains to be seen how the situation develops.

Jordan Pickford will look to redeem himself

Pickford will certainly look to redeem himself in the coming months and prove his worth once again. He has shown his quality in the Premier League over the years, and there is no doubt that he could get back to his best once again.

The Englishman was being linked with a potential exit from the club but Everton have now decided to stick with him despite fresh exit links. It will be interesting to see if they can bring in Patterson who can compete with the England international for the starting spot. The competition for places will help both players improve, and Everton will certainly benefit as a squad.
