Sean Dyche’s Everton are looking at Newcastle United shot-stopper Nick Pope as a potential replacement for struggling Jordan Pickford.
According to a report from The Sun, Everton are interested in the services of Nick Pope. They are looking at the Newcastle United goalkeeper as a potential replacement for Jordan Pickford who has been struggling for form since the start of the new season.
Pickford’s time at Everton could end soon
Pickford joined the Toffees back in 2017 from Sunderland in a deal worth £30 million. He has been their go-to man in goal ever since but it seems Sean Dyche has grown tired of his errors of late and is considering making a change in goal.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper still has three years left on his deal with the Merseyside club. But, it seems Dyche is ready to part ways with the former Sunderland shot-stopper who has conceded 13 goals in their first four league outings of the season.
Everton had a comfortable 2-0 lead against Aston Villa on Saturday but they ended up losing 3-2 and Pickford was once again criticised for his work. Dyche could look to replace the English international with one of his backup options in the coming weeks and he has already started to plan about signing a new goalkeeper.
Everton keen on signing Nick Pope
Nick Pope is a name that is quite high on his wishlist. The Everton boss worked with the Newcastle goalkeeper during his time at Burnley and he feels the 32-year-old could be an ideal replacement for Pickford. He has the experience and could help them survive in the English top flight.
While Pope remains the first-choice goalkeeper at Newcastle, the Merseyside club could still have the opportunity to sign him in the winter as the Toon are interested in Burnley’s James Trafford. They see the 21-year-old as an ideal fit for their team in the short as well as the long run. If they manage to sign him, Eddie Howe’s team might not have any problems selling Pope.
With his contract running out in less than two years’ time, the winter window could be the best possible opportunity for Newcastle to cash in on Pope. But, it will depend on whether they manage to bring in a new shot-stopper.
