Juni Calafat scouts Cristian Romero at North London Derby

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months.

The Argentine international is reportedly on the radar of Spanish giants Real Madrid, and chief scout Juni Calafat was supposed to be in attendance during the North London Derby to run the rule over 2022 FIFA World Cup winner Cristian Romero, as per Defensa Central.

It remains to be seen whether Real Madrid are impressed with his performances in the coming months and decide to make a move for him at the end of the season. Spurs could not keep a clean sheet, losing 1-0 to Arsenal.

Romero has established himself as one of the best defenders in the world since his move to the Premier League, and he is certainly good enough to play for Real Madrid. They are widely regarded as the biggest club in the world, and the opportunity to play for them could be quite attractive for the South American star.

Real Madrid need to bring in a quality alternative to David Alaba, and Romero would be a superb investment. However, he is unlikely to be a cheap acquisition, and Tottenham could demand a premium for him. It remains to be seen whether Real Madrid decide to follow up on their interest with an official proposal to sign the defender in the coming months.

Romero will want to play at the highest level

Cristian Romero will want to compete at the highest level and win major trophies. If Tottenham cannot provide him with that platform, it will not be surprising to see him look to move on. The North London club will have to match up to his ambitions if they want to keep him at the club.

Tottenham have put together an exciting squad, and they will look to push for trophies this season. They must secure UEFA Champions League qualification as well. The best players in the world will want to compete it in the Champions League regularly, and Romero will certainly hope that Spurs can provide him with that opportunity.

It will be interesting to see if Real Madrid come forward with an official offer to sign the defender at the end of the season. Spurs will not want to lose him easily, and they will make it difficult for the Spanish giants to secure his signature. Tottenham are also planning contract talks with the Argentine.
