Arsenal keeping tabs on Javi Guerra for potential January move

Arsenal are closely monitoring the progress of Spanish midfielder Javi Guerra with a view to an approach in the following windows.

According to Football Insider, Arsenal could be on the lookout for new midfielders in the following two windows and are keeping close tabs on Javi Guerra. The Valencia midfielder has emerged on their radar following a breakthrough season in La Liga, although the Gunners are not expected to trigger his release clause.

Arsenal monitoring Javi Guerra

Javi Guerra is steadily becoming a household name at Valencia after a breakthrough season with the Spanish side. The midfielder raked in 40 appearances in all competitions and is on course to have another important season in the context of his career.

With many clubs showing an interest, it will be a surprise if one of them makes a concrete bid for the 21-year-old in January or next summer. Valencia will want to keep hold of him at least for the whole season, and they have the power, considering Guerra has a contract until 2027 and a £100 million release clause attached to it.

Arsenal have seen links to Guerra recently, as Mikel Arteta may want another Spanish addition to his squad following the permanent acquisition of David Raya and Mikel Merino. The Valencia midfielder is thought to be someone they like as a long-term addition to their project, although the Gunners are not interested in paying anywhere close to that £100 million release clause.

Some critical reports over the last few weeks have suggested Valencia will ask for considerably less to sell the 21-year-old midfield prospect. Arsenal are closely monitoring his situation as they are pondering changes as the club could look to replace Jorginho and Thomas Partey in the future.

Guerra would suit Arsenal

While Arsenal are reportedly planning on replacing Jorginho and Partey, they could either offload both or keep at least one. In any case, they will need reinforcements and could dip into the market for a younger profile, as Guerra does suit their requirement.

There are also links to Angel Gomes, but Guerra’s dynamic style in the middle does make for a prospect who could develop in the future. Guerra’s apt profile might end up suiting what Arteta wants for the future of Arsenal’s midfield.
