Barcelona, Bayern Munich interested in Gabriel Magalhaes, Arsenal want to agree new deal

A host of continental clubs are chasing Gabriel Magalhaes, with Arsenal eager to agree a new deal with the Brazilian international defender.

According to HITC, Gabriel Magalhaes could have some of the biggest clubs chasing his signature, with the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the mix. The continental drop, alongside a host of other top teams, is keeping close tabs on the Brazilian’s situation, with Arsenal eager to agree to a new deal.

Arsenal keen on keeping Gabriel Magalhaes

Four years ago, when Gabriel Magalhaes signed for Arsenal from LOSC Lille in a £27 million deal, the times were different. The Gunners had just finished the season in eighth place, with Mikel Arteta only in charge for six months, and had won the FA Cup.

Fast forward four years later, and today, Gabriel is part of a formidable Arsenal defensive setup, which proved to be the meanest in the Premier League last season. Arteta views the Brazilian as an integral part of his backline and will fight to keep him on board for years to come.

The 26-year-old was the subject of heavy interest last summer from Saudi Arabian clubs, but Arsenal kept hold of him. He signed his new deal back in 2022, which lasts until 2027, and now the Gunners are eager to tie him down on a new contract.

Arsenal are in open dialogue with the defender over a new deal, and there’s confidence that an agreement will eventually be reached. There’s no reason for Gabriel to leave the Gunners in their current plight, considering Arteta has built a title-challenging side with the potential to get even better.

Barcelona and Bayern Munich are interested

It’s baffling to see Barcelona among those linked with a move for players like Gabriel or others who are perceived to be expensive. The Catalans may end up making critical changes to their backline next summer, which could even see the likes of Ronald Araujo leave, meaning someone like Gabriel would make sense. However, their financial situation saw them exposed to another level this summer, which begs the question of whether they can afford the Arsenal star.

Bayern Munich is also keen to add a top-draw name following Kim Min-Jae’s abject performances last season. Gabriel would be the ideal candidate to replace the South Korean, although any move to sign the Arsenal man will be difficult and very expensive.
