Newcastle United rival Chelsea, Tottenham in Patrick Dorgu chase

Newcastle United will reportedly compete with Chelsea and Tottenham for the signature of US Lecce wide player Patrick Dorgu, valued at €30-40 million by the Serie A club.

According to a report by Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Patrick Dorgu is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The US Lecce wide player is also a target for Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea. Meanwhile, the Serie A club will demand around €30-40 million to part ways with the Danish international.

The rising stock of Patrick Dorgu

Patrick Dorgu has been a revelation since joining US Lecce from FC Nordsjaelland. The Serie A club initially signed the teenage prospect on a loan deal in July 2022 before completing a permanent transfer 12 months later. The Dane took some time to establish a foothold in the first-team squad at US Lecce but has not looked back since breaking into the senior setup.

The 19-year-old started as a left-back but has converted into a winger in the early stages of the 2024/25 season. Dorgu has turned out 38 times thus far for Lecce while chipping in with two goals and one assist. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United.

A man in demand

Chelsea and Tottenham mulled over securing Patrick Dorgu’s services in the summer transfer window before a move failed to materialise. The two London clubs remain interested in the Danish international, with recent reports claiming that the Blues view him as a priority target for the winter transfer window.

Chelsea’s interest in Patrick Dorgu is surprising, considering Enzo Maresca has stacked full-back and attacking units in his squad. However, the Dane might be a viable target if they sell Mudryk. As for Tottenham, Richarlison and Manor Solomon face an uncertain long-term future at the North London club. In addition, Son Heung-min is on the wrong side of 30. So, Dorgu can be the long-term successor to the Tottenham captain.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United can do with a player like Dorgu amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Miguel Almiron. The 19-year-old Lecce wide player will not cost a bomb either, with the Serie A club valuing him at around €30-40 million.

Considering Dorgu’s progress and US Lecce’s valuation of €30-40 million, the Serie A club will struggle to keep hold of the Danish international. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea, Tottenham, or Newcastle United can bring him to the Premier League next year.
