Barcelona rival Real Madrid in Fabian Ruiz chase

Barcelona will compete with Real Madrid for the signature of 28-year-old Spanish midfielder Fabian Ruiz, who might leave Paris Saint-Germain next year.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Fabian Ruiz is the subject of interest from FC Barcelona. The Catalan giants are scouring the market for a midfielder reinforcement for next year and have set their sights on the Spanish international. However, the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder is also a target for Real Madrid.

The Fabian Ruiz tale

Fabian Ruiz has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Paris Saint-Germain from Napoli in a deal worth €23 million in August 2022. The move came out of nowhere and shocked many across the football world. However, the Spaniard has made his mark at Parc des Princes, although he has not been an undisputed first-choice midfielder for PSG.

The 28-year-old has turned out 74 times thus far for PSG while chipping in with six goals and ten assists. Ruiz was recently exceptional as Spain returned to the summit of European football by winning the UEFA Euro 2024 title.

However, the Spanish midfielder faces an uncertain future at PSG after Joao Neves joined Les Parisiens in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Fabian Ruiz’s situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. However, a return to La Liga might be on the cards, with Barcelona and Real Madrid keen on signing him.

La Liga return on the horizon?

Barcelona’s interest in Fabian Ruiz is understandable. The Catalan giants are keen on bolstering their midfield department by signing a versatile midfielder. So, several candidates, including Leon Goretzka, have emerged on Barcelona’s radar. However, the 28-year-old PSG midfielder is also a viable target for the Blaugrana.

As for Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti has driven Los Blancos interest in Ruiz, with the Italian tactician keen on reuniting with the Spaniard at the Santiago Bernabeu. So, Real Madrid might launch the offensive to sign the UEFA Euro 2024 winner, especially with Luka Modric in the twilight of his career.

PSG will likely recoup more than the €23 million they paid to sign Ruiz two years ago if he leaves in 2025. However, it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can beat Real Madrid to the Spanish midfielder’s signature.
